For me, it is a means of expression and discovery. I believe in theater, not only do I get to learn about a different lifestyle, or a different time period, but I also get to learn more about myself. And for two or more hours a night I get to escape my own life and enter another through song and dance. I’ve been doing theater since high school. I moved here in late 2009 and audition for my first musical in the NOVA area, Reefer Madness. Since then I have been on in a couple of other productions. But I have also helped out backatage in the hair and makeup department. Spring Awakening marks my fifth production with Dominion stage including those times off stage.
Why Spring Awakening?
The subject matter mostly. Perhaps everyone, too, has gone through a point during their adolescence, where they think about one or more of these topics. It has been six years since my high school experience, yet many of these topics and feelings are still fresh in my head. I, too, remember having almost the exact conversation that Moritz has with his father—“What would happen if I fail?”, with my own parents.
